A major key to a happy life is understanding that humility is not punishment, but a beautiful gift that draws us closer to God and teaches us so much. It is where pride dies, dependence grows, and the heart learns to fully trust our gracious and faithful Lord. Humility is an honest and wholehearted surrender that will continually shape you into the person you were created to be.
This is what humility teaches me:
It teaches me how to sit with someone in pain and truly feel it, while also recognizing that even if I think I fully understand their pain, I don’t. It teaches me how to encourage broken people without judging them or valuing them any less than I value myself. It teaches me how to pray sincerely, not with vain repetition, but with my whole heart. It teaches me how to listen, how to comfort, and how to forgive. It teaches me how to love people deeply and sincerely. It teaches me that every single one of my struggles and circumstances can be used for a greater purpose, and I’m truly honored to be part of that.
“The Lord has told you what is good, and this is what He requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.” Micah 6:8 (NLT)
